Butterfly Biosphere is a new 33,000-square-foot venue experience at Thanksgiving Point Institute. It consists of a discovery zone with hands-on activities and exhibits, a Costa Rican-themed climbing structure, and an indoor conservatory with thousands of live butterflies flying. The interactions at the Butterfly Biosphere inspire another metamorphosis as Utah’s families learn and transform together, becoming more literate in science and motivated to be better earth stewards.
Members of the Process Curiosity team worked to create a highly immersive environment that transports each guest to a larger-than-life experience. To do this, we designed and built a 6-foot-long caterpillar, a chrysalis, and a butterfly to ensure each guest felt like they were living the life of an insect. This full museum design and fabrication project produced immersive, interactive exhibit structures and live terrarium environments to complement each artistic piece. The attention to detail put into every aspect of the project shows throughout the space. In addition, the team fabricated fiberglass playscape science huts that allowed guests to learn more about the natural world around them. These huts led to playground-style slides and wind tunnels to complete the experience.
