The Mountain View Terrace is designed to celebrate trains and draws a direct connection to the train station that sits next to the museum. Visitors can explore the sounds of the train with a large gross motor exhibit and smaller visual ones. A large hand-powered train car sits along one side of the terrace, allowing two visitors to stand on top of the platform and pump the large piston, building up the air pressure before it releases through the connected whistles. Adjacent to the handcar are Standing Whistles with a wheel for visitors to spin, building air pressure in the tank below. There are also air pressure gauges on each whistle to understand how much pressure is building up.

The Sound Monitor is designed to resemble a large train wheel, filled with three different gauges. Each gauge measures a different quality of sound: decibel, volume unit, and hertz. The monitor is constantly recording the sound inputs and displays the corresponding readouts.
