The House

About this project

Wire it, plumb it, tile it, power it — a walk-through house frame where visitors practice the real engineering inside our homes, from solar panels to shower tile.

A full redesign of The Works Museum’s Engineering Gallery that lets visitors learn about daily tasks and the engineering process through open-ended, flexible program spaces — wiring, plumbing, tiling, and powering a walk-through house frame. Completed September 2023.

What success looked like

Success was an Engineering Gallery reborn — visitors wiring, plumbing, and tiling a walk-through house frame, learning how engineering shapes daily life. The museum’s FY2024 impact report counts more than 30,000 visitors a year through the 635-square-foot house, with Uponor sponsoring the plumbing interactive.

“Different areas of the house are highlighted and you can play with plumbing routing, try out tiling a wall, see the insides of insulation and more!”
