Exploratorium Climber

About this project

Conceptual design for a signature science-center climber — hexagonal pods, netted pathways, and a climbing sculpture that doubles as the building's centerpiece landmark.

We consulted on cost and design estimation for a signature climbing structure, working closely with the Exploratorium team to determine the best materials and applications. Completed September 2021.

What success looked like

Success was a signature climber the Exploratorium team could cost, spec, and build with confidence — the right materials chosen before a dollar of fabrication was spent. Kiewit Luminarium opened on Omaha’s riverfront in 2023, with its immersive geometry climber standing as one of the building’s two large-scale, iconic architectural features.

“…a primary destination along the Missouri Riverfront at Lewis & Clark Landing and a place to explore astonishing phenomena and learn with your hands.”
